OCT 29, 2021: RESIGNATION OF BOARD PRESIDENT AND APPOINTED MEMBER
Two appointed members of the State Board of Education, former president Laura Kohler and Eric Poklar, resigned from the Board under pressure for not voting to rescind the Board's Resolution to Condemn Racism and Advance Equity in October.
Kohler cited direct pressure from Governor Mike DeWine and Senate President Matt Huffman, saying Governor DeWine requested her resignation and Senator Huffman had enough votes to remove her if she did not resign. Aside from Senator Huffman's issue with Kohler and Poklar voting against rescinding the resolution in October, Senator Huffman also stated that he wanted to de-centralize the Central Ohio presence on the Board.
