HONESTY FOR OHIO EDUCATION
YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT ORGANIZER 
 
JOB TITLE: Youth and Young Adult Organizer
HOURS: Full Time, 12 Month Contracted Position
LOCATION: Combination of remote and in-person work with a statewide reach, including events, meetings and trainings 
REPORTS TO: Director
SALARY: $40,000

ANTICIPATED START DATE: January 20, 2022
 
Created in the summer of 2021, Honesty for Ohio Education (H4OE) is a growing, nonpartisan statewide coalition that champions honesty, diversity, equity, and inclusion in education. H4OE serves as a centralized source for the education, advocacy, resources, and community-building necessary to protect honesty in education.  Born from a grassroots effort of committed Ohioans, the coalition proudly represents students, families, educators, advocacy organizations, legal professionals, researchers, policy experts, and faith groups. 
 
H4OE is committed to using Race Class Narrative in our messaging and actions. As an organization that advocates around urgent legislative and policy issues, our culture is fast-paced and entrepreneurial. We work with stakeholders and partners across the state to educate and activate Ohioans around House Bills 322 and 327 in the state legislature, developments at the State Board of Education, and advocacy in local school districts to support honesty in education and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
Anticipated Key Work
  • Partner with youth and young adults to develop an Honesty for Ohio Education (H4OE) youth/young adult agenda
  • Work with educators and other stakeholders to identify partnership and engagement opportunities
  • Build on work happening in schools, districts, faith-based organizations and communities
  • Convene youth for dialogue and training, both online and in-person
  • Communicate through multiple social media platforms
  • Make space for Black and brown students, LGBTQ+ students and elevate their leadership
  • Help design structures and frameworks to support communication, accountability and partnership 
  • Join the H4OE core team and elevate youth and young adult voice in our planning and work
  • Help support H4OE fundraising
Skills & Dispositions Desire
  • ​Firm commitment to honesty in education and teaching the truth
  • Strong understanding of the role of race and racism in US history and a willingness to keep learning
  • Track record of connecting with middle schoolers, high schoolers and young adults and elevating their voices
  • Experience in activism, antiracism, justice and/or education
  • Ability and desire to work in coalition
  • Willingness to travel across Ohio
  • Commitment to problem-solving challenges
  • Honesty and forthrightness around budgets and finances
  • Social media skills
  • Comfort with Google and Zoom platforms
  • Available for evening, weekend and summer work, to support youth schedules
  • Willingness to commit to a one-year position
​This inaugural youth and young adult organizer position will be a contracted position at $40,000 paid over 12 months, with a budget for travel expenses, technology, convenings, and other costs. To help us build a strong statewide coalition and work with partners in northern Ohio, a central or southern Ohio base is preferred. Our new youth and young adult organizer will report to the Honesty for Ohio Education director and work in partnership with the H4OE core team and others.
