A toolkit for school communities on Ohio's House Bill 8.
This toolkit has been prepared for general information purposes only and is not intended to be legal advice
Download the Toolkit
Don't Discriminate for HB 8 is a toolkit designed for school communities to guide them in advocacy and policy around House Bill 8, a bill passed in 2024, similar to the "Don't Say Gay" bills sweeping across the country. House Bill 8 impacts Ohio's K-12 schools and legally goes into effect on April 9, 2025. School boards are required to adopt policies in accordance with the law by July 1, 2025. This toolkit focuses on the LGBTQ+ and "Parents Bill of Rights" language. The bill also includes language for Released Time for Religious Instruction (RTRI). Honesty has a separate toolkit for RTRI, which you can find here.
This toolkit was created in partnership with, The Columbus Education Justice Coalition, Equality Ohio, Honesty for Ohio Education, the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, Kaleidoscope Youth Center, the National Association of Social Workers - Ohio Chapter, TransOhio, and GLSEN - Northeast Ohio Chapter.
